Why does shrek 2 have three directors? - Shrek 2 Reviews

How does one direct an animated film? I find it hard to believe that the job is so difficult it requires three people to accomplish it. Curious. Shrek 2 is a cartoon. It is funny. I laughed. Then I laughed again. Then once more. Funny stuff for people who like to laugh. I like to laugh, so I liked Shrek 2. What gives with Ben Affleck? He has a fat face. Ben Affleck is not in Shrek 2. This is also a good thing, because nobody really likes Ben Affleck. If somebody tells you they like Ben Affleck, they are a liar. Do not trust them because they lie, and most likely steal things. Shrek 2 was good. Thank you. (Smile to the audience and bow)

Leaves shrek 1 green with envy!! great movie!! - Shrek 2 Reviews

I heard Shrek 2 was one of the few movies that turned out better than the first and all I can say is I loved it! They were right it was better than the first one...A great Comedy both people of all ages! Although it had slightly less of an immediate storyline the first one..it was very well done and full of movie spoofs... This is not a "wait to rent" movie!! If you haven't already seen this movie Go See It!! You won't regret it :).

My 5 and 11 yr old loved it - i give it a+++ - Shrek 2 Reviews

My 5 yr old went in sleepy. I was afraid she would fall asleep. I kept checking on her - she always had a big smile on her face. I never saw her pay so much attention and never saw such an engaged smile from her. She loved it although she missed (thank God) some of the jokes. My 11 year old laughed much more than me. He got most of the funny scenes and more. In the car going back home he kept reminding me about all the funny scenes and they were many. I can tell you this was one funny movie. I paid especial attention to the actor voices. Eddy always manages to amaze me. I enjoyed Larry King's part. The woman whose voice he played looked a bit like him :) - I thought the similarity was intended. Mike Myers was also great. Too bad he made that stupid "Hat in the Cat" movie. There are so many good things to point out but I do not want to spoil the move for you. I vote for Shrek - 3.

#1 animated parody - Shrek 2 Reviews

I didn't know what to expect from this movie because I was originally going to see troy, but I found myself watching Shrek 2. There are so many stabs at other movies and things we see every day that much of the younger audience in the theater didn't get. Many very humorous parts of this movie were cleverly hidden so that you would only get them if you were paying attention. Here?s my overview: Story: B The fact that this movie was a sequel and that everybody knew what was going to happen in the end may have pushed this to a B. Otherwise, the jokes and parodies thrown in were hilarious at times. Acting: A The voicing was great but the way the animation fits with it is still pretty good. They're very funny. Not much more to say here. Direction: A Very good and very comical. I enjoyed the fact that many of the jokes were not oriented towards the children in the audience, namely the mission impossible scene with the jail, and the "Knights" scene. Visuals: A+ Even though they are similar to before, they still seemed better, newer, and of higher quality than before. Just that good. Overall: A Despite the fact that I was disappointed about not seeing Troy, I really enjoyed this movie. This film is funny for people of many ages without being too oriented towards a younger or older crowd. If you have wasted you time reading this far, I recommend you go do something interesting rather than rot here in front of your monitor. I already wasted enough time typing this, so don't be the next to waste your time. If you are still reading this please stop right now. I think I need mental help.

Parent's corner - Shrek 2 Reviews

I took my nephew, who is only 5, and wasn't sure about the PG rating. So for any who are worried and have their kids on a strictly G rating diet, here is what you will see/hear or might have to explain. 1) Shrek farts/burps etc. 2) Towns people chasing the couple with pitch forks 3) Lots of cartoon kissing 4) Shrek & Fionna in a mud tub 5) Puss in Boots get caught by the Knights (take off of Cops) with cat nip in a dime bag and says, 'That's not mine." My nephew didn't care about 3&4, didn't get #5 and our pre-movie talk covered potty humor and that it not something that should be praised. #2, you can explain the 'Why' question that may come and use it as your base to explain racism, homophbia and political parties. Overall, this movie is fine for kids, but truly lost of most. Those that were raised on all the Grimm Fairy tales will catcht a lot of the little signs and jokes. Kids, enjoy it on the big screen, adults rent the DVD.

Hilarious movie. must see. - Shrek 2 Reviews

I never went to see the first Shrek, dismissing it as another Dreamworks "Hey, look what we can do with CGI" fest. I happened to catch it on TV no more than like a month ago, and found it to be an entertaining and original movie. Hence, when Shrek 2 was announced I was definitely placing it in my "to see" category. The trailers were none too memorable, so although it was going to be seen, it wasn't a super excitement. Boy was I in for a surprise. This movie is HILARIOUS. I was crying at most of Puss in Boots' scenes. Shrek 2 takes a simple plot and turns it into a riotous crack on pop culture with characters we all know and love. I never cease to be amazed how well "kid's" movies are written now a days, as theirs plenty of jokes in there that there's no way the kids are going to get, but the parents are going to love. Shrek 2 is no exception. Story: "B". Like I said, pretty simple. Acting: "B". Almost all of the jokes in this movie are sold by the visuals. Everyone did a great job, but it's less their comic timing (except for the phenomenal Eddie Murphy) and more the visuals. Antonio Banderas... not known as a comic actor had easily the funniest character in this movie. Direction: "B". Very nice job selling the visuals. Visuals: "A". If your sick of CGI dismiss this rating... of course then dismiss this movie. I still can't get over how real the humans look when they get close to the screen. You swear that a human actor accidentally slipped into the movie. Overall: "B+". Definitely memorable. Coming into this I had no strong desire to see Shrek 2. Now I can't wait for Shrek 3.

Good but there was something missing - Shrek 2 Reviews

The first one had many pharses that are still used to today, such as " Im making waffles" or "noble steed". But this one is missing that, I think. The story line is good and funny. But many people in the movie didnt stay and watch the end when the Dragon came and brought the kids. I think the could have worked that in somehow.

Funny blast! - Shrek 2 Reviews

Saw it tuesday night. Great movie. Better then the first. A lot more comedy. *Funniest scene* starbucks, you know the one i am talking about.

Second parts sometimes are good!!!!!! - Shrek 2 Reviews

This movie was hilarious!...personally, I thought that It wasn't going to be as good as the first one, but for my sorprise it was terribly funny. The visual effects were excellent!, better than the first one. If you enjoyed the first one you gonna love this one!. Although the story is pretty similar, there are new characters that make it funnier. I would recommend it for all ages, although I think kids are not goin' to catch some of the jokes. It's worth the money and the time.

The ogar has taken over once again - Shrek 2 Reviews

If you thought the first one was good well you havenet seen anything yet. The fat guy has one my love once again and the donkey lets just say HES THE BOMB

Too much relationship stuff but still fun. - Shrek 2 Reviews

Viewed the midnight sneek tonight and I have to say this is definitely going to be added to my DVD collection when it comes out in that form. Shrek 2 starts off right where Shrek stopped. It definitely has lots of comedy in it just like the original however the relationship and "meet the parents" stuff at the beginning kind of keeps things from kicking into high gear at first. Once it does it's all out fun though. Antonio Banderas is hilarious as Puss 'n Boots. I have to say at times he definitely seemed to be getting the upper hand on Eddie's comedic work as Donkey. Finally, when you go, stay until the credits actually start rolling up the screen.......you'll see what I mean, it's worth it.

The funniest movie - Shrek 2 Reviews

I think shreck2 was a hit. It had all the right stars and all of them were very funny. The story was creative and brillant.

Innapropriate - Shrek 2 Reviews

I went to see this movie with my two daughters 7, and 3. I thought that there were innapropriate scenes and was embarrassed and had to tak my two children out early. Who thinks that there is humor in showing knights/cops pulling drugs out of a cats pocket. Since when in our society is it a joke or acceptable and putting that in our childrens head that it is just something to laugh off? And is is acceptable in our society to wear thongs from the opposite sex? Just because there are people out there who try to change who they are by acting like the opposite sex it is not okay to make it as though it is normal or even appropriate message to send to our children. I wouldnt recommend this movie to anyone I know and am praying for the people who wrote it and are trying to sugar coat it fro our children to watch.

Better in than out - Shrek 2 Reviews

what made shrek one of my alltime favourite is the originality and sensitive comedy. That element kinda lacked in shrek2. But make no mistake about it when I say there are a ton of laughs but this comedy is more like a parody.....remember scary movie??? Yeah....like that. Couple of ogres caught up in social acceptance updrift. It had all the elements that for a good Made-for-the-masses movie. so for all you guys I say..... better in the movie theaters watching shrek2 than out reading reviews!!!!

I love this film - Shrek 2 Reviews

It starts kind of slow, but as soon as Puss in Boots enters the picture it takes off. I liked the first film, but I think this one was just a little bit better. This film is a great mix of humor for children and adults. Although it gets a little risque at times but most kids won't get it. Shrek2 takes pot shots at almost every film you can think of and does it in a unique way. The interplay between Puss and Donkey is wonderful. I don't want to run it for you so I won't get into the how's and why's...JUST SEE IT.

The ogre returns with a bang - Shrek 2 Reviews

Making a children's film that speaks to young and old audiences alike is quite a challenge. This is especially so with animated films. There has to be a fair balance between immature, mindless eye candy ("Home on the Range", "Scooby Doo") and blantent adult content ("South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut"). The recent creation of CG cartoons by Disney and Pixar such as "Toy Story" are definitely not too silly for adult audiences, but it seems that Disney is stand-offish about an abundance of adult innuendos. "Shrek" takes the honors of being a truly original animated creation that dishes out brilliant satire and subliminal mature messages, yet continues to serve as understandable eye candy for the naive little ones. The sequel, "Shrek 2" picks up where the original left off and still delivers the comedic goods. Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) are now newlyweds and have to face the biggest challenge of all: meeting Fiona's parents (John Cleese and Julie Andrews). This wouldn't be a big deal except that Shrek and Fiona are ogres and Fiona's parental units are snobbish royalty in human form. The sequel brings the return of memorable characters such as Donkey (Eddie Murphy), and introduces new ones as well, most notably a swashbuckling assassin feline named Puss and Boots (voiced to "Latin Love Machine" perfection by Antonio Banderas). Like most sequels, I don't think "Shrek 2" lived up to its predecessor. However, unlike most sequels this is not a lousy, half-assed effort to make money ASAP. Yes the film took in $124 million during its opening stretch, and yes the film was clearly destined for box office gold in its development. The point is that the script is treated with care and delivers plenty of smart writing and fun laughs to keep audiences of all ages satisfied. What I fear about the "Shrek" franshise is the generation effect. Like the case for most films, sequels will likely lose quality as more of them are produced. "Shrek" is a series tailored for one follow-up after another. More and more sequels are released year-by-year to a point where unmemorable flicks get a second chance ("The Whole Ten Yards" anyone?). "Shrek 2" luckily passes the bar for quality and originality for being a sequel. Enough about sequel fodder. "Shrek 2" really is a quality film by itself. It dazzles with creativity with its unforgettable characters. These are characters who experience real life problems even in a whacked-out fairy tale world. Shrek is an outcast ogre with a heart of cold who just wants to fit in with everyone else. Like members of conteporary society, he is different from the majority population in appearnce, but is probably more kind and caring than most of the "pretty people" combined. "Shrek 2" promises to provide a wonderful time for families, twenty something couples, older people......the list goes on. I give this movie the stamp of approval.

Better then the first - Shrek 2 Reviews

I saw this movie at a special showing yesterday at around 11 o'clock pm. The movie was without surprise a great funny for kids and adults film. It had jokes kids could understand and some jokes only adults could understand, but still the movie was funny. The story was also great and yes you see all of ur fave characters return and some more new ones. PuSS in Boots steals the show though, he is funny smart and sly. The king and queen of far far away are also funny at their own time. Donkey Fiona and shrek of course are brilliant as usual. TWO THUMBS UP! GO see this.

D - for dumb humor - Wedding Crashers Reviews

I am simply let down everytime I get talked into going to an american made comedy. Who's rating these comedy movies... post pubescent boys and girls? I guess if you think bare breasted women, stupid cliches' and just plain dumb writing is funny... more power to you. I'll stick to the foreign comedies, until Hollywood can produce something more funny than this type of garbage.

Better than the first! - Shrek 2 Reviews

One of the greatest sequels of all time! A comedy better than the first! The Jokes are more than creative, and the fun and action never stops! Bringing in new hilarious charachters mad the movie better! The all new far far away idle is funny! You need to see it!

Splendid! excellent sequel...a must-see! - Shrek 2 Reviews

Sequels tend to most of the time stand behind its original counterpart. Usually forgetable, less glamour, and an annoying dragged extension of the first movie. Shrek 2 is not the case. Hilarious from start to the end! The introduction of a very valiant, yet cute, kitty played by Antonio Banderas just adds spice to an already well thought-out movie. The supporting cast, like the first, hold the structure of this film strongly as well. From the gender-confused big bad wolf to the three little pigs, it is a sequel filled with laughs and an occasional snort from an audience member in the back. Donkey, of course, does not disappoint and Fiona continues her gracefulness and sweetness as the princess-turned-ogre wife of Shrek. The film concludes with a bang, somewhat cheesy, but a good breather break after an entire movie of unstoppable laughs. Kids will enjoy it for its characters and slapstickness while the adults will enjoy it for its humor and dialog. Good for the heart, kids and adults.

Even better animation! - Shrek 2 Reviews

WOW! Shrek 2 was definitely not a disappointment. Although it did not quite match the first movie (which was new idea and fresh, unexpected characters), it came really close. Shrek 2's animation was just astonishingly brilliant! In no animation movie I have watched so far have I seen more details, more life-like human characters, clothes, water, rain, trees, and soap bubbles. The fairy godmother was done especially well, as was Shrek's human appearance. The story was probably not as great as the first movie, but it definitely became very interesting the further the movie proceeded. The twist that the fairy godmother is not always so innocent and helpful as one would expect was original and provided for interesting plot. Ahh yes! We finally do get to see "The Muffin Man!" He has a pretty important role down the stretch. Overall, a memorable and exciting movie to watch.

Too many off color jokes and sexual inuendo - Shrek 2 Reviews

I attended a 6 pm showing which was attended by primarialy young families, mostly with fathers as the adult chaperone. The children were primarily 4 - 9 years old. I can say that only about 5 times did any of the audiance, mostly the adults, laugh during the entire movie. The few music selections were not as well matched to the scene they were with as in Shrek 1.The visuals were great. However my biggest disappoinment and complaint was the regular sexual jokes or mannerisms said or performed by the main characters. This included a "crotch grabbing dance" a la Michael Jackson by Pinoccio. I know the movie included reinactments of many classic movies but can a movie be made for children that doesn't resort to either violence or sexual references? It cheapens the whole thing and religates the writer's into pre-teenager mentality rather the the adults I hoped they were. Although entertaining this one will not find it's way into our family collection.

Funnier than shrek, more exciting than king arthur - Shrek 2 Reviews

The care, off the wall humor, and attention to detail that went into this sequel makes it every bit as good as its brilliant predecessor--if not better. It's obvious that the makers of "Shrek 2" weren't just out to capitalize on the popularity of the first film by quickly cranking out a carbon-copy that devoted fans would see based on its name alone. There really is plenty to laugh at here--including some light jabs at Hollywood and fairytale stereotypes. There's plenty of humor that is targeted towards adults as well, although in all cases, it's so masterfully executed that it isn't inappropriate for younger viewers. And I have to admit that the final battle sequence had me far more excited than the campy action sequences of "King Arthur". Even the animation in "Shrek 2" is an improvement on the original; all in all, I recommend this one highly!

Just as good as the first - Shrek 2 Reviews

This movie is hilarious it has many good jokes and puss in boots is awesome. I love the part were he acts all sad and cute. The giant gingerbread man is cool to.

Great family movie - Shrek 2 Reviews

The sequal to Shrek is awesome.. Same witty humor, fun for kids AND adults. The graphics are great and bringing back the same voices and characters makes this as enjoyable as the first!!!

"let's do it again!" - Shrek 2 Reviews

Let's just say with all the hype of Shrek #1 and all the hype with Shrek #2 I highly enjoyed #2 more than the first! With the first one I left the theater disappointed- wondering what all the hype was about. Don't get me wrong; I thought it was good, but not OH MY G_D GREAT! as it was being talked about. It wasn't until I rented it on video that I came to have a better appreciation for the technology and to fall in love with its characters. Donkey is my favorite character and he doesn't disappoint in this film. In fact, Fiona is much better in this film than the first- which is great; she was the only annoyance for me with the first film. The characters, esp. Puss are great- Go Puss! All in All- I loved #2 and want to see it again!

Amazing - Shrek 2 Reviews

This movie rocks! The story is smart, witty, and the addition of character puss in boots is amazing. The CG effects top anything out there. They make Nemo look like tuna. This is a must watch movie.

Outstanding............two thumbs up !!!! - Shrek 2 Reviews

One of the most expected movies ever arrived on the Theaters everywhere around the nation, yes it's not "SHREK" but this movie has its own flava, which makes it OUTSTANDING, the visuals are even better that the first one, the jokes are as good or even better. I do not believe this movie is made for close minded people or children under 5 with republican conservative parents. I was cautivated since the first 10 seconds of the movie, Dreamworks really put a lot of effort working on every single detail, you get to see Saint Justin Timberlake or Madonna's Kylie Mingues' shirt dressed by a guard. Latin audience is been taken seriously in this movie, one of the most lovable characters "The cat with boots" was played by spanish actor Antonio Banderas, who I personaly enjoyed such a great performance, since being the clasic latin lover having the typical sex appeal to singing "LIVING LA VIDA LOCA" a song who made Ricky Martin's crossover possible. The message of this movie is clear and direct; easy to understand and well made points on the table that would be enjoyed and understood by the most stupid person in the US. GO AND WATCH THIS MOVIE, you won't regret!!!!! I'm going to repeat the experience at least two more times, and for sure I'll get the DVD in my selective collection. THIS MOVIE IS DEFINITELY "THE BEST ANIMATED FILM OF THE YEAR" "AN OSCAR WORTHY" "AT LEAST 10 ACADEMY AWARDS NOMINATIONS"

What do people see in this movie??????? - Shrek 2 Reviews

Shrek 2 does not live up to the hype, period! This movie lacks the passion, storyline and overall orginality of Shrek; nor is this a successful sequel. Shrek 2 is about a fair Godmother gone mad, and the only kicks and laughs are that of holywood making fun of itself and recent pop culture. How many times can I laugh at somebody making fun of Michael Jackson and Joan Rivers? Trust me when I tell you this movie has been over sold to the public and lacks completely a creative script and storyline. Once again Hollywood hypes a movie that does not deliever, and needs its stars and images on ceral boxes to "sell it". Not recommended for children under 8!

He's big, he's green and he can act! - Shrek 2 Reviews

Shrek 2. Does it compare to the first? ... yes! Is it better? ... yes! The second Shrek, to feature Mike Myers and his all-star cast, began at a much slower pace than the first, but climaxed and ended on, I thought, a much better note. The music choice is spectular, the direction is phenomenal and the animation is almost perfect. Making a good second movie is difficult. Making a better second movie is nearly impossible. Do yourself a favor ... go see it!

Shrek 2 i nearly died laughing - Shrek 2 Reviews

This movie is clearly better than the first. My sides ached afterwards. Between the jokes and the almost leathal punnage this movie is a laugh riot. Ive got to go see this one again:D Go see this movie even if you dont have kids. Grab your friends and be prepaired to laugh out loud.

Puss-in-boots forever! - Shrek 2 Reviews

All along, ever since the announcement of Shrek 2 just shortly after the 2001 surprise hit's resounding success, I've been constantly defending the upcoming sequel from the near-constant moans by the artsy schmaltzy snobs who were assuming that it was going to be terrible and pointless, especially reminding them about Toy Story 2. I'll have to admit that when the commercials first started to air, they were very underwhelming and didn't seem as something that would scream to be seen. On the flipside, it was the extremely positive advance reviews that confirmed the fact that I was seeing it opening day. Having just come back from the theatre... I'm glad that I don't have to eat my words. Simply put, Shrek 2 is every bit as funny and memorable as the first, and in my opinion, it joins Toy Story 2 and Terminator 2 among the rare list of sequels that are actually far superior to the original. Among the many standouts, Puss-In-Boots was screamingly hilarious and forever restored my faith on Antonio Banderas. All I will say about what makes him so great is that the entire room will simply be in awe at how adorable he is when he makes his puppy-eyed expressions. I'm glad to see, for once, a feline-like character that isn't portrayed to be evil or rotten. He is EXACTLY what this type of sequel needs so that it isn't the same old. And speaking of the rest of the cast, they were also very funny--there's far too many hilarious antics to list, even if I wanted to ruin the movie for you. The movie's message, which is once again about being happy under your own skin, is actually needed even more this time around. With primetime garbage like Fox's The Swan sending less-than-great looking people the wrong message, it's nice to see that there are human beings out there that still believe on true beauty being on the outside. There are but only a few problems to be had with the movie, mainly the fact that the movie is so funny during your first viewing that it'll derail your attention span on the actually quite complicated central plot, and thus be led into believing certain things that aren't intended to happen. But of course, that's what second viewings are for ;) What are you waiting for? SEE IT NOW. This is going to be the act to beat for the rest of the summer box office derby.

Don't see this film... - Shrek 2 Reviews

Don't see this film if you're expecting something original or ground-breaking. Go out and rent or buy the first Shrek instead. However, if you're interested in seeing a film that's immensely entertaining and fun for the whole family, I would higly recommend 'Shrek 2'. I took my parents and nieces to see it last weekend and everyone loved it. This is one of those rare films with universal appeal. It offers something for every viewer without spreading itself thin. Continuing in the satirical spirit of it's predecessor, the humor in 'Shrek 2' ranges from subtle to sophomoric as it pokes good-natured fun not only at the fairy tale genre but also a slew of Hollywood blockbusters both present and past as well as Hollywood itself. The prerequisite bodily function jokes aside, I found myself laughing just as hard as the Joan Rivers clone introduced a narcoleptic Sleeping Beauty onto the red carpet as I was at the Little Pig saying "I see London, I see France..." (though it's an easy gag to miss since it happens during a very fast-paced sequence in the film). The original cast returns for this second installment, but we're introduced to a few new characters as well. The most notable two are the Fairy Godmother (Jennifer Saunders) and Puss In Boots (Antonio Banderas). Saunders does an excellent job playing a Fairy Godmother who behaves more like The Godfather as she plots to have her son Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) become the successor to the throne of the kingdom of Far, Far Away by marrying Princess Fiona. Banderas is superb as Shrek's newest sidekick, Puss who is a cross between Don Juan, Errol Flynn and Garfield. Though a self-professed cat-hater, I found those big, sad kitty-cat eyes utterly irresistible and was laughing at almost every scene Puss was in. Is 'Shrek 2' as original as the first? Of course not, but that's just the nature of sequels. Is it just as imaginative, clever, visually stunning, funny and full of heart? That would be an exuberant yes on all counts.

Even an ogre would laugh at this film..... - Shrek 2 Reviews

The first Shrek film had some pretty good moments and is probably one of the ten best animated films I have ever seen. While the first film was good, Shrek 2 is flat out great. A clever storyline with terrific humor for children and adults makes this film one of the three best animated films I have ever seen. All of the key players are back for this installment which follows Shrek (Mike Myers) and his new bride Fiona (Cameron Diaz) traveling to the kingdom of Far, Far Away Land to visit Fiona's parents. On the trip they are accompanied by their faithful pal Donkey (Eddie Murphy) who provides some humor and a somewhat annoying personality. The trip provides several laugh out loud moments with several jokes touching on today's pop culture. Perhaps the funniest character of all is played by Antonio Banderas who appears as Puss in Boots. The film plays out in typical fairytale fashion with life lessons for one and all. The voices are fantastic in this film just as they were in the first film, with Antonio Banderas stealing the show as Puss. There are non stop laughs from all of the main characters and even some of the bit characters are hysterical. For me, the funniest moment of the film involves a rescue attempt where Pinnochio (Cody Cameron) must lie in order to help Shrek escape a dungeon. It is truly hilarious! This is a fantastic film for people of all ages and it will have parents laughing every bit as much as kids. Definitely a must see film for anyone who enjoys a good laugh.

It is an orge of laughter!!!! - Shrek 2 Reviews

Ok first and foremost if you did not or were not a fan of the 1st Shrek, forget about it. Now to the review. This is a delightful follow up to the suprise hit Shrek. Shrek 2 delivers the goods and a lot of suprises. At first it may appear that the movie is starting off slow and you may be wondering when do the laughs come, well trust me they come. When they do you will be on the floor dying from laughter. The last 30 mins of that movie are some of the funniest I have ever seen period in any movie. The gingerbread man has a much "bigger" role then in the 1st movie which was a smart play. This is a movie the whole family can enjoy and one that will become a classic just as the first Shrek did. Enjoy!

Great attempt for a sequel but not as good as #1 - Shrek 2 Reviews

Don't get me wrong, though. Shrek 2 is well worth the money and the time and I predict it will be this summer's blockbuster hit. This is partially because it really is good, and also because, from what I've seen anyway, this summer at the theater is going to suck. Donkey is up to his same games. You don't see the Dragon because "she's been moody lately." Puss n' Boots has some very funny lines and his facial expressions are a SCREAM. You'll also see some old friends from Shrek 1: the three pigs, the blind mice, and of course the Gingerbread boy (not the gumdrop buttons!). Adults will dig this movie more than kids because many of the jokes are way too sophisticated for your average youngster, and plus they manage to make fun of every significant 80's movie that was ever made (Ghostbusters, Beverly Hills Cop, etc.). However kids will like it too, even if only for the "ooh it's a cartoon" quality. Most of the soundtrack was great but there was one scene in particular where the background music didn't match the situation at all and it sort of put a damper on the scene a bit. Another thing that bugged me is a scene where the Fairy Godmother is singing to Fiona: the lines you CAN catch are hysterical, however the song goes so fast that you can't enjoy it very much. The plot was predictible but still entertaining. I think one of the main reasons this movie isn't as good as the first is because Shrek #1 was so original, and all sequels are basically copycats of their predecessors. Nothing can compare with the first one because we had never seen anything LIKE the first one, which puts it in a class by itself. I have a lot of respect for the team that put this together, though. They obviously put a lot of work into this film and at least attempted to do as good of a job as they did the first time around. Most sequels (ESPECIALLY cartoons) are so lame and sloppy, to the point that I think the makers are showing utter disdain for their audience: "Ho hum, the first one went over huge so we'll just slop together a sequel and get the fans' money." The makers of Shrek 2 went the extra mile, and their fans will do well to remember this the next time these people release a movie. Finally, a company that strives for excellence!

A great movie...mostly - Shrek 2 Reviews

Let me lead with the positive: The humor was great, including some fantastic parody that often exceeded the high standard set by the first film. And I actually thought that the final message of the story is more sweetly straightforward (and thereby much simpler for the kiddies to really get) than that of the original movie. On the negative, I felt like about 15 minutes early in the film that set up the rest of the movie dragged, even to the point where they made me dread what was to come. What a pleasant surprise to see that the film did a huge turnaround! Viva la ogre!

Shrek vs. star trek - Shrek 2 Reviews

Basically this movie is just about an exact duplicant of the first movie. So if you liked the first movie then you'll have no problem liking the second. I say it's a duplicate because about 99% of the characters in "Shrek 2" are featured in the first movie......even the gingerbread man who lost a leg, lol! Good aspect about these Shrek movies are the jokes...as robust or insignificant as they seem, they are what truly make the film! Once again there are jokes that children will LOVE and "inside" jokes that parents will get also....making it a good all-around family movie to watch. I was reading an article about the original Shrek movie and it said that Chris Farley was originally supposed to play the role of Shrek. Wow, wouldn't that of been neat to hear Chris Farley instead of Mike Myers??? LOL...i think it would have, because Farley has this laughable, foolish voice..........but then again Mike Myers has proven himself well worthy of playing the big Ogre so far. Anywho i recommend this film to all ages. It's not just a kids movie, but can be a movie for teens or us college kids also. Actually seeing the choices of movies out currently, I'd have to say that Shrek is about the only good movie out so far!

Dont leave until credits are done, you'll miss it! - Shrek 2 Reviews

Although Shrek 2 is not as magical or heart-warming as the first, it is still a great movie for both kids and adults. Where it lacks in "heart" it succeeds in jokes. The writers did a fantastic job. They took a movie I couldn't possibly imagine having a sequel and made one! Shrek 2 leaves off where the original ended, with Shrek and Princess Fiona on their honeymoon. They return home to the swamp to find Fiona's parents, King and Queen of Far Far Away, invitation to their kingdom. And then the quest is on....to MEET THE PARENTS! The movie takes off from there. There are more memorable and likeable characters in the sequel, including my favorite: Puss N Boots. Along with the new characters, there are some amusing spoofs from other famous movies like Lord of the Rings, Mission Impossible, and more. In many ways this movie is just as good, if not better than the first. I highly recommend seeing it. HINT, don't leave when the credits start rolling, there's a bit at the VERY end of the credits that is hiliarious!

Wow!!! better than the first! "really really!" - Shrek 2 Reviews

I was very happy with this continuation of Shrek's adventure... It was like a combination of "Nutty Professor" comedy meets a happy fairytale...It was hilarious and an overall good time! Non-stop laughing! Great movie! "Puss N' Boots" was a great addition and many laughs will be remembered! I would recommend this movie to all ages!

A great time! - Shrek 2 Reviews

If you are looking for a great time at the movies, this is where it's at. There are laughs coming from all the characters throughout the whole movie. There are also many movies it pokes fun at, which is cool. It is a lot of fun trying to figure out what movie they are teasing and stuff. Many of the same characters from Shrek are back and few new ones who add to the comedy. Puss-in-boots was a great addition. Go see it for yourself and you will have a good time. Don't worry about the bad stuff people have to say about it. They are just trying to be professional critics and take everything to seriously. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the movie. You will be laughing in no time...

Half as good as the first - Shrek 2 Reviews

A big newspaper reviewed Shrek 2 with: "...it's a slightly zombie-like version, with the size, look and shape of the original movie, but without its lightness or spirit, its soul." I'm in complete agreement. It's like half the movie of the original. Mike Myers does the accent only half the time, as if he forgot he was doing a character. Hey, a cool ten mil, why bother trying? The story was only half written, full of gaping plot holes and "should haves..." those plot turns that are obvious and expected (and desired) by the audience but are never taken, building disatisfaction right from the top. The gags and jokes are not as funny as the bad skits they save for the last fifteen minutes of Saturday Night Live. The music, playing such a hilarious and noteworthy role in the first for its blend of the contemporary with the fantastical in a witty contrast, was pointless and ineffective here, even juvenile. The denouement welds the storyline back together, but achieves nothing greater than what the characters had at the beginning. In the first movie, they were lamentable in the opening, then once the story developed, the change that occurred benefitted everyone. The upshot is: wait for the DVD.

Good, but it has it quirks - Shrek 2 Reviews

Shrek 2 is a very good movie and a great sequel, but I think it is not as good as the 1st one. The jokes are good, geared towards adults more, but the movie as a whole doesn't seem to have the originality as the first. Some things seem recycled and almost seem predictable due to what you know about the 1st movie. It did make me laugh, but I think that some of the very minor characters' reappearances were unneccessary. However, I think that the change of setting and the addition of Puss N' Boots was a great move. Puss successfully carries alot of the movie, and gives the movie a new flare. Which is good since it alliveates some of the weak points of the movie. I do not feel dissapointed in this movie, I felt it did have it's good points, but I am hoping that this is the last of the sequels for "Shrek."

No shock - Shrek 2 Reviews

i remember going into the first shrek, prepared for a kids movie with outstanding visuals, and what i got was a complete shock, i loved it, the humor the flow everything about shrek one was great. The second while good, lacked alot of the same things, and i think the main thing was the shock. The movie started off very slow, great ideas for the honeymoon, but the music was not upbeat enough, and didn't get you going like alstar did in the first (even though that song is very annoying). THe music was slow throughout i think, and never got the audience involved. The introduction of new characters was done well, and they fit into the story well, but lacked most of the substance that lord farquad did. Puss in boots while funny, seemed a little pointless at times. My favorite characters were again the extras like pinochio and gingerbread man. Visuals were stunning, loved the rain and hair effects, most improved from the first. Still plenty of pleasant surprises to make it a good film, especially in the end. But not as much shock as the first, which may have been a little too much to expect. Good flick, but can they really make two more films around this character, we'll see. Looking forward to more original fair like the Incredibles.

Arguably better than the first - Shrek 2 Reviews

I finally realized why I am tired of all those "Naked Gun" and "Scary Movie" flicks. (Yes there is a point.) The problem with these flicks, is that they throw everything at you but the kitchen sink but there is really no rhyme or reason to what they throw out there. Sure some of it may actually be worth a giggle or too, but it sooner or later all comes down to the same question that rarely ever gets answered... "What's the point?" I'm sure you're asking the same about this review, so here it is. Wether you notice or not, Shrek II, and to a lesser extent the original, is a really funny gag film in disguse. What makes it funny, is that the gags actually have a point, and are are an essential part of the story, rather than just thrown on the screen to distract you from the actual story line. This is average length film that pokes fun of movies (Ghostbusters comes to mind), places (The Hollywood Bowl), Events (The O.J Simpson chase), Pop Culture (Starbucks), Personalities (Joan Rivers), and anything else you can think of. Plus, you still get the same hillarious main charecters and supporting Fairy tale creatures from the first, Not to mention a even more hillarious new charecter. Of all people, you get Antonio Banderas voicing a feline assasin named "Puss in Boots" in what is obviously a good natured jab at his "Mask of Zoro" movie from a few years back. Even the same gags from the first movie get an enhancement of sorts. Yes, the scenes with Fiona's parents, not to mention the whole subplot of Fiona and Shrek as humans, let just a bit of steam out of the full blown nuttiness, but hey, the story still held together quite nicely. In short, Although I am cautiously optimistic pending the arrival of "Shark Tale" in October, Shrek II is a shoe in for best animated feature just like the first. Not only the first to get the award, but quite possibly the first to sweep as well. In all honesty, superior animated films are getting fewer and further between these days. One can only hope that more Studios will make an honest effort to produce better quality films of this sort(Take a hint Disney). It seems however, that what I'm asking for appears to be a monumental task for even the best animators these days.
